OVERVIEW

Why invest in workplace wellbeing and mental health training?

There are more conversations about mental health and neurodiversity, specifically autism and ADHD, in the workplace than ever before. 1 in 4 of us will be experiencing some form of mental health difficulty at any one time, and 1 in 5 of us may be neurodivergent in some way. Yet mental health difficulties continue to cost the UK economy £118 billion each year, in part due to lost work days, reduced productivity, high staff turnover, presenteeism and absenteeism. One quarter of all business owners and their staff will face this, so the case for having clear, robust strategy, training and preventative strategies to promote positive mental health and wellbeing at work is clear.

Preventative, wrap-around strategies to identify and improve mental health and wellbeing in the workplace reduce sickness days, improve productivity, reduce turnover and overall improve working culture with openness, support and trust. Reasonable adjustments for neurodiversity help to promote team cohesion, independent problem-solving and creativity, as well as staff retention and engagement. Yet research tells us that more than half of all managers and business owners do not know where to start with finding and implementing mental health training in their company.

Research tells us that the following help:

Awareness training to help identify mental health difficulties at work

Access to timely, evidence-based support including psychological therapy

Skills-based training for employees to self-manage stress and mental health difficulties

Compassionate leadership training for managers and leaders to promote positive, supportive culture in the workplace

Clear strategies and interventions to identify and reduce work-related stress risk factors

Individuals with an interest in the practice of therapy, mental health and neurodiversity

Yet many training packages are delivered by people without clinical experience, training or expertise, and often begin and end at awareness or surface-level strategies. Robust, evidencebased mental health training for organisations that goes beyond awareness and improves culture, strategy and processes is essential. Our experienced, doctoral-trained clinicians and educators have designed and delivered each package to meet this gap.

Taking the step to seek psychological support can feel daunting, and finding the right person matters. I believe that meaningful support starts with genuinely understanding the person in front of you, not just the presenting problem. With over 15 years of experience across NHS and private settings, including acute inpatient hospital care, community mental health, and Children and Young People's services, I aim to offer a space that feels both clinically rigorous and genuinely welcoming. I offer psychological therapy drawing on a variety of evidenced based approaches, alongside neurodevelopmental assessments for adults, with a particular interest in ADHD and autism, delivered with a neuro-affirming approach. I hold a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, am a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
