How CBT Therapy Works
The CBT Model
CBT therapy is based on understanding how three elements interact:
-
Thoughts - What goes through your mind and the way that you think
-
Feelings - Your emotional responses
-
Behaviors - What you do or avoid doing
By changing one element, you can positively influence the others, creating a cycle of improvement.
CBT Techniques You Will Learn
-
Thought challenging - Identifying and questioning unhelpful thinking patterns
-
Behavioral experiments - Testing fears and assumptions in real-life situations
-
Activity scheduling - Planning activities that improve mood and achievement
-
Exposure therapy - Gradually facing avoided situations safely
-
Problem-solving skills - Breaking down overwhelming problems into manageable steps
