Free Self-Compassion Workshop

A one-hour workshop introducing self-compassion and some practical, science-based tools to gain it.

Service Description

Do you struggle with giving yourself a hard time or beating yourself up? Do anxieties and stressors get in the way of being present and feeling good day to day? You're not alone. Our brains are wonderful things, though they have developed into what we call 'tricky brains'. Although plenty of scientific research shows us that having a kind, compassionate and supportive relationship with ourselves can help keep mental health difficulties at bay, it is hard to achieve. Compassion-focused therapy is an evidence-based approach to improving various types of mental health problems, from anxiety and depression to disordered eating and psychosis. It teaches us the reasons why it is hard, the tools to remove the barriers to compassion, and the skills to improve our relationship with ourselves. Unlock Psychology Ltd is pleased to be offering free, in-person, hour-long Self-Compassion Workshops in the heart of Warwick, at The Court House. These interactive workshops will introduce the concept of self-compassion, highlight barriers to compassion, and introduce practical tools to foster self-compassion. It is facilited by qualified clinical psychologist and accredited cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT), Dr Alastair Pipkin, who has been delivering psychological therapy using compassion-focused therapy for over 10 years. He has published research on self-compassion, designed and evaluated compassion-focused therapy groups, and trained other professionals in using it too. The workshop will cover: - Why we have a 'tricky brain' - The 'three systems' model of the brain - The concept of self-compassion - Mindfulness techniques - Tools to foster self-compassion It is interactive, though you will not be asked nor expected to share any of your personal experiences, only to share any thoughts or reflections on the topic at hand. It is a confidential space, so who attended and what was said will remain confidential outside of the room. It is not a replacement for psychological therapy, rather it is an educational workshop designed to help raise awareness and offer practical tools to use in daily life.
