What assessments does Unlock Psychology offer?

We offer comprehensive private autism, ADHD and gender dysphoria assessments, as well as general mental health assessments. All assessments are conducted by HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologists, and are accepted by GPs, employers, universities, and other healthcare providers.

How long does a private assessment take?

Assessment duration varies by type. Autism assessments typically take 4 hours across two sessions, ADHD assessments take 3 hours, and Gender dysphoria assessments take 2-3 hours across 1-2 sessions. All assessments include pre-assessment questionnaires, in-depth clinical interviews, feedback session, and detailed written diagnostic report with recommendations. The complete process from initial appointment to receiving your report takes around 3-4 weeks depending on assessment type.

Will my private assessment report be accepted by my GP?

Yes. All our assessment reports are prepared by an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist following NHS and NICE diagnostic guidelines, and include substantial, detailed evidence of our conclusions. We recommend discussing private assessments with your GP beforehand to ensure they're supportive of shared care arrangements where applicable, and your GP is welcome to reach out to us to discuss our credentials and experience.

How much do private assessments cost?

Private assessment costs vary by type. Autism assessment costs £1250, ADHD assessment costs £1250, and gender dysphoria assessment costs £700. We offer combined autism and ADHD assessments which are £2100. There are no additional costs.

Do you offer online or in-person assessments?

We offer both online and in-person assessments in Warwickshire. In-person assessments take place at our private Warwick practice and online appointments are over Zoom. Both formats result in the same detailed diagnostic report accepted by GPs and other healthcare providers. We can discuss which option suits your needs best during your initial enquiry.

What happens after my assessment?

After your assessment, you'll receive a comprehensive written diagnostic report within 2 weeks, pending any changes you would like to make to it. The report includes your diagnosis (if applicable), detailed explanation of assessment findings, evidence supporting the diagnosis, and practical recommendations for support, adjustments, and onward referrals. You can share this report with your GP, employer, university, or other healthcare providers. We're available to answer follow-up questions and can provide additional supporting letters if needed. If you receive a diagnosis, we can also discuss ongoing therapy support options.

Can I get an assessment if I don't have a GP referral?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You do not need a GP referral to book a private assessment with us. You can self-refer directly by contacting us via email or our website. However, we do recommend informing your GP that you're seeking private assessment, as this helps establish shared care arrangements for any post-diagnosis support (such as ADHD medication or gender-affirming medical care prescribing).
