Counselling for Men in Warwick, Leamington Spa and Online
Opening up about your emotions or difficulties as a man can be challenging.
We fear judgement; we fear not being seen as strong and capable; we fear it not being a ‘manly’ thing to do. Sometimes the people around us don’t quite ‘get it’.
At Unlock Psychology Ltd, we specialise in men’s mental health. Our doctoral-trained clinical psychologists can help you move forwards with assessments or therapy.
We have conducted and published research on men’s mental health, we have designed and delivered groups for men, and we have expert male therapists who specialise in men’s issues. We’ve seen it all: anxieties, low mood, strong emotions like anger, sadness and fear, and efforts to block out emotions, such as over-working, drinking or using drugs.
If you are a man seeking therapy and would like to discuss this with our specialist clinical psychologists, please do reach out today.

If you are seeking a male therapist or male friendly therapy, feel free to reach out today. We offer both online and in-person sessions in the Warwickshire area, specifically Warwick and Leamington Spa.
Male Therapists
Sometimes men seeking therapy have a preference to open up to a male therapist.
There can be a shared understanding of men’s issues, male emotional regulation styles and some of the challenges faced by masculine norms or expectations.
There can be shared knowledge of how we might have been raised to manage emotions in particular ways, such as through not talking about them, hiding them or focusing on solutions.
We have male therapists with expertise in working with men’s mental health.
Our team have conducted research on male mental health, worked in male-specific settings in the NHS, and are trained in the latest evidence-based approaches to therapy.
Meet Dr Alastair Pipkin
CEO & Lead Clinical Psychologist
I am passionate about providing personalised, thorough, compassionate therapy for each individual I meet. I am focused, analytical and personable in my approach, combining my natural curiosity and empathy with a clinically-rigorous, solution-focused approach.
In my 10 and a half year NHS career, as a fairly rare male therapist, the majority of teams I worked for would refer most of the male clients to me. Through this, I have developed specialist skills and knowledge in how mental health tends to present in men. I have worked with men from adolescence to older age, with the whole spectrum of mild to complex and severe difficulties. I later worked on male acute inpatient and psychiatric care inpatient units, where I applied these skills to establish men's therapy group programmes, adapting to consider male-rearing and preferences.
On meeting, we will explore what your aims for the therapy are, so that it can be tailored to meet them. I will be looking to focus each session on what you want to gain to help you move past whatever difficulties you have faced.
As a male myself, I can appreciate how societal messages, family experiences and expectations, relationship dynamics and workplace demands can all feed into our mental health. I am also a firm believer that everyone is different, and I take an open, exploratory and non-judgmental approach to understand each story as it is.
We can meet in-person in The Court House in Warwick town centre, or via Zoom.
